Has anyone modified the daytime running lights on their Geo Metro?

I have a 96 with the sealed beam lights that I am converting to electric.

I would like to disable the daytime running lights or convert them to LED or other more efficient lighting.

Has anyone experimented with this? If so, what results have you had?

What I have done was disabled them completely. If you pull the parking brake lever up one click, the lights go out, but this leaves the "Brake" bulb illuminated on the dash. I put both seats all the way forward, removed the 2 screws holding the console and lifted it up. I then took the parking brake wire, loosened a mounting bolt, and grounded the wire to the bolt.

Like I said, this leaves the "Brake" bulb illuminated, so if your fluid goes low, you will not be aware of it. You could also yank out the bulb from the cluster to save energy for the "ElectroMetro".

Are the daytime lights always on? On my swift i just can switch them off.

Does the Metro have a DRL module that part of the harness runs though? I know on export Jeeps with DRLs the module is just pulled inline with the harness. Removal is as simple as unplugging it, and reconnecting the harness

I never did find where the DRL module is on my car.

I tried to find out about the DRL, but apparently the Metro was the first car to use DRL (sweet milestone) and there was no separate module for it.

I have been using the "one click" brake method for now, until I can take the cluster out and help that brake bulb join the service engine bulb in the great beyond.

General Motors immediately equipped most (and, in following years, all) of its vehicles with DRLs beginning with the Chevrolet Corsica.
