Minnesota engineer builds pedal -assist BEV trike
AeroStealth shared a You-Tube re : MN friends seek joy of commuting
at youtube.com/watch?v=th9ryOKjfDq The premise of the vehicle was to combine the cardio workout of a gym's stationary bicycle, with a light, streamlined, 3-wheel, human-powered, BEV, commuter, capable of 70-80 mph. No telling if it will ever succeed as a commercial enterprise, but interesting to see what comes out of the minds of individuals. Like the Clark Family Quarantine Band.:) |
It says video unavailable for me.

Oh, the pedals aren't connected directly to the drive train, and only add about 5% to your range. OTOH, highway capable!
|
Usually the purpose of pedals on such things is to get it classified in a different way. The problem is they probably hurt seating or leg position and just add more weight and complexity. I bet you could get more range and maybe some shade with a solar panel.
I do think that would be cool to be able to buy the basic shell and frame as a kit. |
That's probably true. I think solar panels and humans both max out around 300W (about half a horsepower).

When I watched the above the next video down the rabbit hole was this one...
https://youtube.com/watch?v=037CAW4Y...fety_mode=true Another nice looking little electric transport, not highway, but check out how cool the top folds into the back. |
