The Minnibago
This mod may have cost a point or two on mileage, but I'm hauling less wasted space. I took 3 seats out of my Metro, and made it into a fully self-contained RV. Sometimes, staying over can save a whole trip. If pressed, I could wait out a week of storms inside, and emerge ready for a job interview. It also works much better for cargo. The rig is shown in a 4-door, but it also fits in the coupe. I'd love to get it going, but I'd really like to find an XFI cam for it before the engine rebuild. Anyone?

Good job on the Minnibago... I put a XFI cam in my Metro and didn’t see a gain. In fact, it lost a few mpg’s. It probably needed a XFI ECM also, which I did not have. Since you are rebuilding the engine, just go ahead and shave the head to raise the compression ratio a little. It will give you more low end grunt (same as the cam) without changing any other parameters. Have a great day... :turtle: > . |

My Superbeetle has a one-seat camper interior; but no stove, just a refrigerator. It's more of a Kombi; it carries cargo but I've overnighted in it. What's the blue thing under the cabinet? |

Why can't the bed platform be level with the floor? In the video it seems like there should be plenty of space. What's in the way?

In my Super, the 'bed' lifts up for storage.

It's only about 6" deep. I wouldn't want to sleep in the windows either.
My main concern is laws about 'hidden compartments'. |
Sometimes I lurk about such minimalist approaches as a more affordable (and eventually capable to reach places where a larger vehicle would become unsuitable) and even safer option for camping, as some degree of stealth may become desirable.
