mirror delete with integeated blinkers
My to do list includes side mirror deletes. They are next to useless and I use the rearview spot mirror to deal with the huge c-pillar blind spot i have now anyway. My primary concern is that they are mounted to the door skins not near the a-pillars. Second problem is integrated blinkers. If I remove one will I have to put a resistor in to spoof the electrical circuit to blink at the right rate or will it act like a bulb is out and blink too fast? I found a good diy for getting after the bolts that hold it on. finding time block to make a plate that i could bolt back in is also holding me back. Any insights from the gurus are welcome.

Heh. I thought that you were going to put a turn signal into the flat plat with which you were replacing your mirrors! :)

You want to deliberately remove your indicators? |

I want to remove the mirrors but they have EXTRA blinking indicators on the outside tips of the mirrors. I also have conventional indicators at the front and back lamp assemblies. I want to put flat plates over the mirror's point of entry into the door. It will not have a blinker in the plate. It would look like what was done on the Prius mirror delete thread.
I'm wondering if I do this will it cause the remaining indicators to blink too fast, since I will be removing a bulb from the circuit. That's assuming that the outboard mirror indicators are on the same circuit as the conventional front and back blinkers. They may be LEDs out board too. Once I commit to removing them its going to take some time to make a cover over the whole and I don't want to leave it exposed to rain in the mean time. I'm brainstorming at this point with the nagging thought that this may be disturbing a module somewhere. Attempts to modify the rear hatch dome light (its easily covered by gear since its on the side panel not the dome)came with warnings of module damage. |
The turn indicators in the mirrors are LED and the car would never know they were gone. You could add side European style turn indicators if you were worried about the loss of indication but it is not required in the US. Now side mirrors on the other hand I think are required and of course government so slow to react to technology doesn't recognize electronic "mirrors".

Tennessee law requires a rear view mirror but is vague and doesn't specifically call for side mirrors. I'm sure I'd get pulled over anyway if I didn't have one on the drivers side. I used a bicycle side and rear mirror in my sandrail for close to a decade without complaint. They were only irritated that my teepee exhaust wasn't quite enough.
