Misplaced Wiring

and what should the person do who happens to be without a desktop computer? i was wondering along the lines of part no. from a radioshack or something.

That I don't know. I have quite a few free desktops here (school had a pile for recycling, find them on curbs, family/friends etc) so it never occurred to me that they would be hard to locate. I havent seen anything at ratshack that looked like a good fit, you could just solder wires to it also.
can get one from the orient for $1.68 too 4Pin IDE ATA Power Supply Molex to Floppy Adapter Cable - eBay (item 260568448049 end time May-12-10 19:17:36 PDT) |

cool, can I suggest soldering to the part that goes into the pcb by the bend in the pins? so you can easily add a plug later if one materializes? (bunch 'o solder on the plug part of the pins might not work so well later)
