Got a ecomodder design idea to market?

Reading in a copy of Smithsonian Magazine today I bumped into a reference to one of these 3D printing operations that will contract to produce stuff for you--in metals, plastics, and other materials. Turns out they make things for small-scale internet retailers and hobbyists. News to me. Went looking through their pages. They have a whole "mechanical" section that includes stuff for current and older production cars. Turbine for $9, anyone? Turbine by Vulpodrac on Shapeways

See my car's mod & maintenance thread and my electric bicycle's thread for ongoing projects. I will rebuild Black and Green over decades as parts die, until it becomes a different car of roughly the same shape and color. My minimum fuel economy goal is 55 mpg while averaging posted speed limits. I generally top 60 mpg. See also my Honda manual transmission specs thread.

My friend is in the finishing stages of building his own small CNC mill (for not much money, either). It just goes to show you can build what you put your mind to.
