Fast warm up ideas: diesel fired air heater.

I got one of these.

It's a "5kw diesel air heater" they come in one's that look like this up to 8kw. Normally I say bigger is better but I went with the 5kw one because it can put out as little as 2kw of heat.
Looking at the 8kw heater I think you could only turn the heat down as low as 4kw. I just don't think I need to burn a tank of diesel at 13,000btu per hour. I would rather have more run time on a tank then heat output.

I'm thinking set it on top of the car, rolling down a window and running the heat in with a clothes dryer duct and that will melt all the ice off my leaf.

Did you buy it for this purpose?

Would an electric heater have not sufficed? Or is there no power at one of your stops?

When I leave from work in the morning after working all night there is no electricity where I park.
Oh and I think 5kw will be plenty to thaw out a car. Even the lowest setting should do fine on all but the coldest single digit mornings.
Or if I need to deice the car at home. When it gets down into the teens a single 1kw space heater doesn't do squat. So leaving a space heater in it over night just wastes that much electricity.

The picture is small, but it almost looks like it needs electricity.
