http://fuelsaving.info/index.htm shut down

A great site that debunks a bunch of "fuel saving" shenaigens has closed it's doors.

Tony's Guide to Fuel saving

Shows how often I go there, as it was in November of 2012 but it was nice to know that info was just right there.

Bummer!

This is a loss. I know I've linked to Tony's site dozens and dozens of times.

Issues seem to be: declining traffic, ongoing hosting costs and threats of lawsuits... with that last point being a big one.

I can identify. I've been threatened with legal action a few times as a result of this site or metrompg.com. Fortunately, nothing has ever come of the threats (which were baseless anyway).

But as Tony points out, lots of people/companies file baseless lawsuits all the time. (Hello, USA!) The potential for enormous inconvenience, cost and stress of being brought into court - even when you know you're in the right - can be enough to make you want to fold up your tent and go away.

Maybe he'd be amenable to selling the content or donating it for hosting elsewhere.

Wow, bummer! Tony is a voice of reason and intelligence in a sea of misinformation and just plain ignorance. I'm glad I had the chance to read everything his site once had.

For people like us, who know what to look for, it's easy.

It's the uninformed and un-tech-savvy who really need the info, and having it as a domain name rather than something to be searched for in the archives really, really helps.
