moonshine fuel
Mythbusters runs track tests of 96% alch moonshine in a carburated 70's engine, a 90s EFI engine, and a 2013 "modern" engine without flexfuel capability. One of 'em works.

Some years ago there was a trend to run ethanol on non-flexfuel cars here in Brazil, because people supposed the EFI would adjust itself regardless of not being programmed specifically for ethanol. Well, it does work under some circumstances, but it's not the best approach.

All my cars do run fine to 50% without CEL, the run fine even higher just get CEL for Long Term Fuel Trim for getting into the 20's and the car thinks something is wrong but they aren't running lean.
Wife filed the 2015 rogue with E85 (habit previous 2 car were FFV) I noticed it didn't start instantly as normal the next morning, later saw the CEL and figured out what she did. MPG dropped to 24ish, till I burned most of it up that day and kept topping off with regular. http://www.speedperf6rmanc3.com/cont...evel_Study.pdf |
Warming trend... when it stays above freezing I start running E85 again.

I now believe in the Mandela Effect (/jk). All those cars at the McMinnville Airport in the 50s just needed the timing retarded and higher compression to run better than the pump gas cars.
Maybe it's just hard to get good moonshine? |

Back during Christmas break the 2010 Impala was home and for the first time ever it wouldn't start and had E70 in it, but it was -14dF (-25dC) that morning. It started the after noon on it's own when it got above 0dF. Told her just to quit using E70/85 till it got warmer. My other Cobalt has a Blender pump close by where she lives so it gets E30 most of the time. They reduce the winter blend to a maximum E70 in this area.
