Mopar to offer Diesel Swap kit for Wranglers
Was avoiding homework and came across this. Would be pretty sweet if it does come into production.

:P The only hang up I could see getting the VM 2.8 into a ZJ would be the Body computer if you guys have one. Else a 4.0 is a 4.0

I have to chime-in as a very-infrequent off-roader (and Jeep fan) -- but this has to be perfect to supply the the torque in 4-low applications. My only question/concern: does it have a turbo? That could be a flaw: turbo lag and all...

Few more bits of info. It will be turbo charged, but actually makes less power. (125/225) vs (190/240) of the 4.0. Along with a max cruising range of 372 miles and a 19 gallon tank, that calculates an avg MPG of around 19.5. Not that great for a diesel.

I herd they were having a lot of problems with the 2.8L diesel.
Bad enough to were people were using the "lemon law" to return and break leases on 2.8L diesels that kept breaking down. But I believe most problems were turbo and electrical related. So the simpler version of the 2.8 might work great. The 6.5L chevy diesel swap is fairly popular to jeepers also. |
I wouldn't want that computerized wonder in my Jeep. I really doubt you could tune it for more MPG. I think these later diesels are too complex to last for the long haul.
Now if we were looking at a cummins 4BT 3.9L I'd be saving my pennys for one. |
A friend has a Liberty diesel. He sent the ECU off to a place called Green Diesel and is loving it.
