motor question
 
i have been on the look out for a motor for my conversion came across this one on ebay the pic of the motor tag looked promising. thoughts ideals suggestions.

vehicle im using 2001 pontiac sunfire
batteries deep cycle marine
voltage planning for 72

i know curb weight of my car is higher than ideal but its already in my driveway and the motor and trans are already out. i think i can eliminate enough items to get weight down to around 200 at least before conversion.

Looks like it should work to some extent, you may want to bump up to a 96 volt system if you plan on running on the highways though. What is the diameter on the motor?

A few things you should know about that motor.
It's a golf cart motor, it's also a SepEx motor, not a series wound motor, because it's a golf cart motor it does not have a male shaft coming out the end nor does it have an end plate or support bearing on the output end of the motor so when you are looking at the end of that motor you are looking at the inside of the motor, there for you can not bench test it without destroying the motor, you need to have it on a golf cart axle.
That motor is rated at 16hp for 5 minutes but doesn't have a continues use rating, my 1,400 pound electric car has a motor almost that exact same size and it's rated at 6hp for continues use, of course yesterday I saw it putting out around 25hp while going up a steep hill... at 10mph in a 1,400 pound car and when you start from a dead stop it will put out 45-50hp for a few seconds.

I might pick that motor for a motorcycle, not for a car, or it would be a great upgrade for a golf cart.
