moving tail lights to rear bumper?
If I were to build an aero-bed for the truck, could I move the tail lights to the bumper? I can't find anything on the state site.

Not sure about your state but here the rednecks love to remove all the rear tail lights from their trucks rear fenders and replace them with corvette tail lights in the rear bumper. I guess its legal because I see it done quite often. I wouldn't imagine so many people would do it if it caused them to fail inspection or get tickets. Your state may vary.

Does your state have info for homemade cars? NYS has requirements for light locations, can't be too high or too low. And they must be approved lights.

El Caminos (I think up till 1988) and Malibu wagons (and its siblings) from the late 70s and early 80s had taillights in the rear bumper. Probably quite a few other vehicles did too. I've seen the Vette bumper kits on trucks too and I don't see why it wouldn't be legal.
If you stick a 3rd brake light on your aerobed, that'd probably help your own safety too for people that don't expect to see the brake lights in the bumper instead. Even though they weren't required for trucks/vans in 91. |
