I have setup the board and lcd like how they show in release one. The problem is this, the dimmer circuit works for the second button but the actual lcd just shows white blocks and no lettering comes in. I hit the next and previous screens and it doesn't do anything. What should I check to fix this? Thanks for any help in this.

first, try a power cycle (not a reset). then continue on:

I had an LCD that did that, but not from nkc. is it from nkc?!?

try also looking at it from really steep angles and see if you can see anything, then

try changing
#define contrast 15
to, maybe,
#define contrast 100

and reflash it. You might have to experiment to find the best contrast value for your LCD. (Yes, I know, it needs to be a configuration item)

I changed the contrast to 200 and now I can read it. The problem I am now having is the fact that the second line is not reading anything. I also did pick this up from NKC

power cycle it to get your second line back, or connect pin 2, and only pin 2, on the lcd to pin 15 on the ardino (aka analog 1), and the code will power cycle the lcd controller for you.

Can you do me a favor and read some/all identifying numbers and words off the back of that LCD? We hoped the LCDs would have been consistent (i.e. default contrast settings would work, etc, etc,) from a given supplier and minimize the problems, but this would seem to blow that assumption out of the water.

I would recheck your wiring if the power cycle (not reset) doesn't fix it.

Can a moderator retitle this thread to "mpguino display issues" or something, it seems like a seperate thread for such a discussion would be appropriate and we have one started already.

I got the lcd display working at contrast of exactly 100. If I plug in the power the display works fine. As soon as I hit the reset on the board, that is when the top only activates. I have it running in my car now but I can't get any of the buttons to work since hooking it up to the injector and other.

That isn't a good sign :) The buttons should be working. Wiggle some of them wires.
