Mpguino on a carberutted motorbike.

I have recently traded in a 2001 fzs which had an ultragauge installed.

It's a small computer that replaces the fuel gauge and taps into fuel level, rpm, speed pulse etc. It also had a feature that could provide fuel economy readings.

It did this by tapping into the fuel pump. Then pump was a diaphragm type which would pump up, then hit a contact which would turn the pump off again, essentially providing a "click per liter".

It seemed to work pretty well and was fairly accurate.

Each click had a defined amount of fuel flow (my setting was 1778 clicks per liter).

Would the Mpguino work using this fuel pump click instead of an injector pulse?

It sounds like it would work. You'd have to determine the length of time (in microseconds) for a given click.

Is it possible to set a range? I suspect the time will change based on the amount of fuel being pumped?

It's not possible to set a range on click length. From how I understand how this fuel pump works, it's not really necessary, either.

If it takes 1778 clicks for this thing to pump a liter, you could measure the on-time for these clicks, and calculate the average value for microseconds per liter by dividing your total on-time measurement by 1778.
