Mpguino on a carberutted motorbike.
I have recently traded in a 2001 fzs which had an ultragauge installed.
It's a small computer that replaces the fuel gauge and taps into fuel level, rpm, speed pulse etc. It also had a feature that could provide fuel economy readings. It did this by tapping into the fuel pump. Then pump was a diaphragm type which would pump up, then hit a contact which would turn the pump off again, essentially providing a "click per liter". It seemed to work pretty well and was fairly accurate. Each click had a defined amount of fuel flow (my setting was 1778 clicks per liter). Would the Mpguino work using this fuel pump click instead of an injector pulse? |
It sounds like it would work. You'd have to determine the length of time (in microseconds) for a given click.
|
Is it possible to set a range? I suspect the time will change based on the amount of fuel being pumped?

It's not possible to set a range on click length. From how I understand how this fuel pump works, it's not really necessary, either.
If it takes 1778 clicks for this thing to pump a liter, you could measure the on-time for these clicks, and calculate the average value for microseconds per liter by dividing your total on-time measurement by 1778. |
