MpGuino Now in KIT form
Figured I would post this it got buried in the other thread. $2 of it goes to funding of the Ecomodder open source project too.
MpGuino Kit Now you guys and gals have no excuse not to build one. They even have a step by step in picture form. Edit:I added this info on the Wiki as well. |

assembly and the time required to gather parts was the reason I didn't build one, this makes it very much worth my while now. (not that it wasn't before, just didn't have time between school and work). |
This should be the first thing on the front page.
|
That negates the only reason I haven't gotten one (other than money of course).
This kit just moved up to #2 on my Christmas list. I will have one! Vol Ps. #1 is an iPod :) |
Is the ATmega in the kit blank or already programmed with the bootloader?
|
I believe it has a bootloader and the latest mpguino version loaded on it. It should just be solder it together and go.
|
Mmmm, I'm setting aside an envelope that says MpGuino on it so I can save up and buy one now. I have to admit that the time necessary for finding the parts was what was holding me back as well. Now I have no excuse, except that I'm so broke I can't even afford to pay attention.
|
Definitely will make this a planned purchage. Question though that is probably a no brainer, but is this compatible with OBDII cars? That way, when I get a new one in the future I won't have to pay $200 for a scangauge?
|
It should be, as long as it is fuel injected.

Very classy. CarloSW2 |
Can you use both the MPGuino and a Scangauge at the same time?
I am interested in using the MPGuino in conjunction with the scangauge and increasing the screen size of the MPGuino to 4x20 instead of 2x16. I'm not sure how difficult this would be, or the parameter modifications required, but now that the Guino is in kit form, it's time to look more closely at it :D. That and the manditory donation is a help to all the fine people that keep this forum going! |
You can certainly use them together. I'm not going to get involved with the 4x20 stuff at the moment, but that doesn't mean a group of folks here won't figure out an agreeable patch for a larger lcd.

How much cheaper/more expensive is this compared to picking up the parts on your own?
|
You can price it out at mouser, something in the $20 to $30 range. But the custom pcb really makes it easy.
paulb (of Modern Device Company ) took some initiative early on and has some early versions of the board and plenty of hardware for making kits. The boards need a couple tweaks, but I've tried them and they seem reliable. I just gave him a call to see if we can find homes for those boards as well. And of course I'm trailing the pack with the open source version :) |
someone build me one and ill buy it, here is my email Yoshi hasnt gotten back to me yet need one for a 95 jeep cherokee i found my vss and 6 injector pins so i am ready to go

Mine finally came in!
http://spidermouse.us/modding/Car/Guino-Parts.jpg Assembly will happen next week, and then I can do real A-B-A testing!! Yeah!! |
We ordered on the same day, I hope mine gets here today!:) I am so anxious. After I get mine working, my wife already wants one for her new '08 Rav4 we got last week. I will create a new garage for that vehicle when I get a chance. So far, we have not gone through the first tank the dealer put in it.
|
Ive been thinking of getting one of the kits for the 6000 wagon. I was just going to swap over the one from the Celeb, which I still might do. But Id like to see how well the kit works for a few members first before ordering one.
|
Done...
The kit arrived yesterday, I assembled it today and everything that I could test without actually hooking it up to my car works fine...
The two boards touched very slightly, so I added a 1/8 inch spacers in between them and used electrical tape on the back of the arduino board to further insulate them from one another. This is sooo much cleaner than my bread board mess! Tomorrow I just gotta find a RJ11 cable that has all 4 pins connected. Thanks for creating the kit and the PCB layout. |
Will there be any sales numbers coming out? I'm curious how many non-members (but of course ecomodders in their own right), will buy one, :)

P.S. Maybe he will throw a freebee my way.;) :D |
He didn't throw one my way, and I gave him the idea... but he did give me a great deal on all the extras I needed to build the one I currently have, so I can't complain :)
|
I went to order mine and they're back ordered. |

Maybe scangauge corp took them out.
I really want one when can I buy? :'[ |
Is this web page down? Haven't been able to get on there for a day.
|
I just tried the site and it works fine.
|
Yep! Back up. I placed my order today!

I received an email stating that there was a supplier shipping error and that more kits should be in by the end of this week!
|
went to order 2 units and they are back ordered again:(
|
I would have liked a kit for xmas, but no luck...
|
Id love to get one but it always seems hard telling when anyone will get theirs. So last week I ordered another Freeduino and LCD. The Freeduino unit in the van works 100% flawlessly. When the Freeduino gets here Ill build one custom shaped to fit the wagon dash. Itll likely have to be a 2 piece unit.
|
woohooo, back in stock and got mine ordered
But now it seems they have two kits available, the complete kit and version one. One cost 39 and the other 42 but I couldn't tell a difference. This should really help me out because now with the turbo I can't safely run down a tank all the way for fear of going lean under boost then BAM!, blown motor. I do have plans to build a surge tank though in the future. :) |
The complete kit is version 2 with the RJ-11 and USB on the same side of the board. The complete kit version 1 is the old version with the ports on opposite sides. (I think)
|
Canada tracking reports that my unit has entered the United States, yeah! Soon I shall have my MPGuino goodness.

Mine should be in today according to UPS tracking number :D ERIK |

I think the "Wire Tap-In Squeeze Connectors" would be a better choice, if you wish to go that route. I know them as "vampire taps" myself. Make sure the wires you want to put them are are 14 to 18 gauge, that's what their rated for.
