Mpguino values.

1 Attachment(s)
I installed my mpguino, its hooked up to speedometer wire and fuel injector wire. I have it on the instrument screen, It doesn't give any values. I'm pretty confident that I have both connected correctly along with power and ground but its not giving any values and it just sits there and flashes the "I". What am I doing wrong, also I have peak hold, followed instructions given by
MPGuino Fuel Mileage Meter
I don't understand whats wrong, please help
Thanks, Matt

How are you verifying that your fuel injector and your speedometer wires are passing along their data? Did you connect up an oscilloscope to them? You could also use a multimeter that is capable of measuring frequency.

I dont know why but the speedometer started working, its not calibrated but it worked. When I'm sitting still the m/g value is 0 but when am moving it gets dashes. Gal/hour always stays at 0. Then instructions on the jaycar module say to put it in the 12v wire not the switched one. I put it in like that. I re-read The page i linked before and I might need to change some of the settings. Its late and storming so I'll probably try tomorrow. I don't have an oscilloscope or a multimeter with a frequency function. Not sure how else to test the sources. I do have the factory service manual and am Confident I tapped into the correct wires.

Sounds like you probably have a loose connection on your speedo wire. Re-check your wiring connections between the MPGuino and your speedo wire.

Not owning a JayCar module, I can't say what the fuel signal problem is. However, your MPGuino is not receiving the fuel injection signal. This is why your gal/hr figure always stays at zero, and why your MPG figure is zero when stopped and dashes when you're moving.

Is this JayCar module a kit that you have to put together? Or is it pre-assembled?

You have to put it together. I went through troubleshooting it and it didn't fix it. I was beginning to wonder if I ever was on the injector wire so I just hooked the mpguino right into it- no jaycar- and it gave a value so I think I must have messed something up putting it together.
Thanks for the help so far.

It's working now. I had a bad solder joint on one of the componenets on the jaycar module.

Injdelay

How do you know what your injector delay value is? Is there a way to calibrate it like you do for the vss and usec/gallon?

The injector delay value is the amount of time in microseconds, that the injector needs to respond to an injection event coming from the engine computer. This is because the injector pintle has a certain amount of inertia that it must overcome in order to move.

I know of no real easy way to calibrate this value, since it is in microseconds. It was added in to make MPGuino more accurate, and the guy who originally thought it up also wanted to add compensations for temperature and system voltage, but that kind of fell through the cracks.
