My Geo Metro Air Dam Mod
1 Attachment(s)
I made an Air Dam from a new bug shield that I purchased at the local thrift store. You can see more pictures in My Albums.
What do you think of it? Hacksaw. |
I think its a smart idea and the clear looks good too. Let us know if you get any increase in FE.
|
Interesting. I wonder what effect that concave front will do in terms of the possible gains.
|
Very nice. I like the look of it. Yes, let us know if you get FE from it...
|
If you take another bumper, cut it in half and flip it upside down, you have a neat custom air dam.............

I have never in my life seen a ricey metro. Congratulations.
|
the clear dam looks neat - hopefully since you mounted it close to the wheels you won't break it on anything!

What about closing off some of the air duct for the radiator with clear plastic? |

I really like the clear look too, and plan to do a grill block and make turn signal covers to smooth the bumpers' aerodynamics with similar material. Headlight covers for the "buckets" will be soon coming as well. (still trying to figure out the dim pass light problem, though.) Thanks for the kind words so far. I took it off because I'm still in the middle of tracking my mileage increase with the new XFi cam grind and don't want it to throw off my calculations(either direction). I have some trimming and rounding of the edges to do yet anyway... There are more pictures of the air dam here: Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com - Hacksaw's Albums Hacksaw. |
those do function nicely. I used a chunk of rubber conveyor belt with an aluminum 90 for an old subaru. I could bump into things and it let flows more as speed increased. (very tough nylon rubber).I see these custom on many cars. I can't seem to find more of that stuff...what ashame. I'd make another one...

Although I like it, it puts limitations on me...If the frontend dips down from irregularities in the road, it scrapes. If I don't go up a driveway at an angle, it scrapes. What I'm trying to say is.......... ...it scrapes...lol Hacksaw. |
I understand your scraping issue.
I took the chin spoiler from a S10 P/U and fit it to my wifes Avalon. It scrapes also. However She has noticed that the car sounds quieter on the highway and the scraping is only on hard bumps or in parking lots. To sum up, She is happy with the way it looks and the scraping doesn't bother her enough for me to remove it and get wind noise back. Schultz |
