Bringing it home. Eddy current dyno, but sold without any control gear.

If you don't mind sharing, roughly how much total cost?

- $3000 for the dyno - $800 plus postage for YourDyno - $250 for the DC power supply parts (I see that YourDyno now sell one for $500, which is a bit high but not ridiculous) - maybe $1500 for fans, cabinet, monitor, heavy duty tie-downs, misc So around US$5,550. I remember it as about AUD$8,000, so that is about right. They key is to keep watching for eddy current dynos for sale, and wait. I watched for many years before I found one I just couldn't go past (and it was only 160km - 100 miles - away). |
Do you have plans for a return on the investment or is it just something to have?

(And I sold an article on the electronics of the dyno to a UK magazine, and I have a commission from a publisher to write a book on home dynos when I want to.) I guess I could hire the dyno out, but over the long term, it's worth it to me as it is. |
