my next mod (what's best: rear wheel skirts + moon hub cabs or a belly pan?)
 

i am thinking about doing my next mod .i am thinking of doing rear wheel skirts and moon hub cabs or a belly pan. what do you guys think will give me a higher mpg gain? or is there a mod you guys know that will be more beneficial to my truck that i am overlooking.

I vote bellypan.

I agree with Tim: of those options, belly pan would be best.

Streamlined bed aero cap would net you the largest gain for a single mod, but you probably know that already.

i was hoping you guys would say the moon hubcaps and the rear skirts. they seem easier than crawling around under my truck. i will wait for some warmer weather to get started on the belly pan.

one other thing i was wonder is if with my aero cap would i be better with the tailgate down or up

Sepp reports from Europe,that with his testing,having the tail sealed up demonstrated the lower drag.My neighbor who ran an open tail on his Vanagon also reported lower numbers.

I vote bellypan

A bellypan will probably be more effective but will be a pain to fabricate, will cause servicing issues, and on a front engine/rear drive vehicle will be at best an appromation.

Just go with the moon caps and enjoy the minor increase until you get ready for the belly pan.

You can see the progress I made with my truck in this thread... :D

My custom brackets really made it easier to hold up the belly pan. To take my belly pan off only requires a few bolts...but gitting to those bolts with the side skirts on takes a little more effort. ;)

While you're waiting for warmer weather to do the bellypan... make rear skirts and moonies:)
