Need heavy duty black vinyl

Where can I get H.D. black vinyl to close in the spokes on the wheels of my truck? Thanks!

No response yet? Maybe if you post a picture of the wheel, be it steel or cast aluminum or Model A Ford wires.

I'd cover the holes from the backside (with duct tape or muslin) and spray them with about 8 coats of Plastidip. It might look like this (the brake drum and dust cap in this case):

3 mil black vinyl

Buddy, Here is what I used to cover the "holes" in my alloy wheels. It is considered heavy duty and is used to "wrap" cars. Got on line at:

Sign Warehouse Inc.
Part number VEG-500-2410-502
24" X 30 foot long roll
$18.59 plus $10.18 shipping

This is much thicker than what I could find at local sign shops.

Hope this helps

Thanks and follow-up

Does the vinyl just "sit there" or is there an adhesive used?

It has adhesive and backing paper. If you go to the Home page here on Ecomodder you will see a thread on "Aeromodded Civic VX 72 MPG". On page 13 or so is an explanation of how I installed the vinyl. Sorry, I don't know how to "link" to it.

I tried once more to make a decent looking wheel cover using vinyl sign lettering material. This time I went on line to Sign Warehouse Inc and found some thicker black vinyl that is 3 mil, almost twice the thickness of my first try. The part number was VEG-500-2410-502 and came in a roll 24 inch by 30 f00t for $18.59 plus $10.18 for shipping. This is enough to make 4 or 5 four wheel sets of covers.

Below are some pictures of how I made them.

First I made a pattern on the back of the vinyl peel off portion. These dimensions will cover all the "holes" on a 14 inch Insight space saver wheel.

Here is the "donut" cut from the roll.

Then I cut across the "donut" so it would lay flat on the cone shape of the wheel

I then peeled off the backer and wet the wheel surface and the back of the vinyl donut with some soapy water, This made it easy to place the donut where I wanted it and remove any wrinkles or bubbles.

Here is a picture after it dried. You can still see where the "holes" are but I think it is still acceptable as a cheap and very lightweight aero wheel cover.

Thanks Xist

I started my "computer" education in collage with a Cobolt? class that required me to carry around a 5 pound box of IBM punch cards for a entire semester. I guess That made me a reluctant and slow adapter. I am also a terrible speller and typer . I was really glad when they came out with that new "smell check" feature.;)

My dad was a terrible speller. People always claim they do not need to know how to spell because they can use spell check, but he always ended up with the wrong word.

How well does the vinyl stand up to sun, rain, and snow? Do you eventually have to replace it?

The donkey CRX 09-18-2014 08:54 PM

My vinyl wheel covers are only a few months old, but so far are doing fine. This material is used to wrap entire cars and I assume will last several years.

This may not work if your wheels have narrow spokes and a lot of open space between the spokes.
