NeoGeo Build Thread
Vehicle was bought on 2/13/2012.
http://www.ubergreenart.com/watching...geo-on-lot.jpg Picture is from day of purchase. It seems that it was sitting a while, but, because of that, it only has 83,000 miles on it. It was dirty, but it has a straight body with very minor rust. The biggest issue is that the clear coat is peeling. I plan on painting it later, but I am starting with the interior first. The interior is in pretty darn good condition. It won't take much to finish it. I will post pics when I get a chance. I will start by performing general maintenance and giving it some needed TLC. So far I have replaced:
In the next few days I will be:
You will have to stay tuned for the rest. :) |
What kind of filters do you use? I've been going Wix for the past few years.
Looks like a clean car. Take care of it :) |
Update 2-28-2012
@ Sven7, I have a STP for the oil filter.
Update 2-28-2012 has been posted. I don't want to keep making multiple postings, so, you can read and look over the Neo Geo updates here: Geo Project I will just announce updates here. Take care all and I hope these help some one too. |
This weekend I removed the majority of the A/C components. I was able to shed 39 pounds. I now have much more room under the hood and I can now use a larger oil filter also.
I also took all the seats out and cleaned them and the carpet. I left the rear seat out and started on building a platform. I started out by tracing the existing carpet onto a piece of wood. I then traced the rear seat on a piece of wood. I finally used 3 separate pieces in the end. The piece that covers the spare tire has a small strap that makes it easy to lift up. I think it turned out pretty good and it is light weight. Wow. That interior looks very clean. Great job!

I added window vent visors to help the car stay cool. They do a great job at venting hot air during the day, rain or shine.
Solar Integration As a follow up to adding the ability to turn my alternator on and off, I converted the driving lights to LED’s. I am still looking for some low energy head lights. It has made a large impact on the load of the electrical system. In doing so, I also had to add a special LED flasher. I built a small pig tail so the new larger flasher would work. I decided on adding the solar components from the past Previa project. I removed those items before I sold it. I have been waiting to buy some semi-flexible solar panels, but I decided to just use what I had on hand and buy the semi-flexible panels later. As you can see, I mounted the panel inside the car. This is obviously not the ideal setup, but it does work. I park the rear of the car facing towards the sun. It sits this way all day until the sun goes down the other side, currently around 7:30 pm. Again, this panel does great in the shade, so it still charges the deep cycle battery well. The big problem I am going to have is when I tint my windows. I will have to use a roof mounted panel once I tint them. Update 3-11-2012 has been posted. If you make Kammback, then you could use panel as part of that Kamm, just would need sides to support it to proper angle and you would have combined solar panel holder and Kammback, which would be better than single awesome :D

@jtbo, I totally agree. A kammback is in the future. Hmm. Maybe in the more immediate now. :)

4-14-2012 Solar v2
I relocated the solar panel and controller. The output of the panel inside the car just wasn't cutting it. I decided to mount the panel on the hood for a few reasons.
* Easy mounting * If I messed up the mounting points, I could easily repair them. * I am HOPING that this will cause a lesser negative effect on aerodynamics. I need to find or build a hood deflector. Time will tell how badly this will effect (if any) my fuel economy. I just drilled 4 holes to mount the panel to the hood. I decided to go ahead and sand and rolled bed liner on the hood because the clear coat was peeling bad. It looks, well, umm, interesting. :D : I mounted the controller on the driver side, under the dash. http://www.ubergreenart.com/watching...4/solar-v2.jpg |
