Article: aerodynamic modifications on the 2015 Mustang

http://cmsimg.detnews.com/apps/pbcsi...d-Ford-Mustang

Detroit News has a piece that notes Ford's work to improve aero on the next generation Mustang:
  • active grille shutters on the turbocharged version (turbo requires even more cooling area, so actively changing flow-through depending on demand makes sense)
  • relocated side mirrors from the A-pillars to the doors
  • slots in the fascia that redirect airflow into the front wheel arches -- "air curtains"
Results: 1% better highway fuel economy on the fastback version.

Ever since I first saw this idea I have been wanting to implement this in to the bumper on my VX
It really shouldn't be too difficult to customize a set up like this, and for a 1% savings why not.

New 5.0 Mustang Areo tricks

A cool video showing some of the areo tricks Ford has used on the new mustang- I'm curious if anyone has tried some of the easier ones, like the rear-facing hood vents and the wheel well vent.

Well apparently I'm too young to post links, but if you go to Youtube and search 2015 Ford Mustang In The Wind Tunnel, you should find it.

can someone explain how dumping air onto the face of the tire helps?

to answer my own question, and better air curtain pics --> http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ain-17418.html

Reverse cowl hood? Helps to suck air from under the hood vs push air up under the engine bay. You see these off and on by someone who got it right and wants function over show.

Maybe dumping air in front of tire gives leadway for it to be sucked behind the wheel once rolling and into the brake? Otherwise most brake cooling uses ducts to the caliper.

I'm hoping this 2.3 ecoboost finds its way into a midsize SUV or the Flex (whatever that is supposed to be). I had a 2.0 ecoboost AWD Escape for a week and was impressed with the power and economy but would like a bit more tow power and room. The V6 ecoboost is dynamite but a bit overkill and they seem to only use it in the top of the line Flex and Explorer (and all 150s but I don't want a pickup.) Maybe I'll just have to see if the Mustang can tow at least it should have a manual as well LOL!
