New and in big long star state Texas
Not certain everything to say purchased a red insight treated quite poorly . I purchased for $1500. Spent $900 so far in fixing it up and still needs hybrid battery work :'( However Toaster is doing much better.

If you end up doing the full belly pan from aluminum, make sure you document the steps! I'm always interested when somebody else puts one together to get ideas for my next one!
You might want to consider coroplast btw, it will deaden the ground noise, where aluminum will amplify it. Good luck with the car, it's a pretty amazing ride when you get the bugs worked out. |
I would like that with less noise. I got the idea from your post. However I have less opportunities to get it than you do haha. I don't have those connections. I think I would go with full black or red on the off chance someone does see under it. I was considering aluminum since I live on a dirt road with stupid hillbillies that have huge stone/dirt mix and concerned with how low it is to the ground sometimes. It still has the mid section but lost the 74101-S3Y-000 FENDER, RIGHT FRONT (INNER) and 74151-S3Y-000 FENDER, LEFT FRONT (INNER) and part front/under bump  don't know name of this part, but it is totally missing. The fenders (inner) got shredded somehow by last owner so going to have to replace them.

Also wondering if any others close to the Fort Worth area that I can borrow a grid charger for a weekend until can get the funds to make my own. Buddy I had that has one is out of town :'( and I am still learning this electronics stuff. Just need to figure out how exactly to do it then order the parts and put it together. I am determined to make my own!

I found 72 in. x 36 in. x 5/32 in. Twinwall Plastic Sheet-COR-3672 - The Home Depot Sheets here but only in white... :'(
|
I would see if there are any pallet companies in your area, they should have the pallet liners and I'm sure they'd sell you some cheap. They come in every color possible, btw. The pallet liners are as strong as the thicker coroplast, and I get mine for 2 bucks a sheet (pallet sized)
When I finally get around to putting the belly pan on Ron Burgundy this winter, I'll go with black or grey. Nice looking Insight, btw . . . throw it in the garage, create a fuel log, and join the Gen-1 Insight team! |
Welcome to the site. Congrats on the Insight. I've always wanted one. :)
|
Welcome and congrats on the new ride. Be patient and don't feel like you have to fix everything right away!
