New eco modder

Hi there,

Just found out about this site. The first thread I read was the "109 Ways" to save fuel. I was surprised and pleased that they had some I had not thought about. Actually I had figured out almost all of them myself.

I have three cars and I am proud to say all of them are less than 2 liter engine displacement. I have have the new Fiat 500 which is an excellent car. The love of my life is my 1997 VW Passat TDI - still gets a reliable 45 mpg. Better than the newer VDub diesels. Third is the Chevy Aveo. Gas mileage is somewhat disappointing for a 1.6 Liter, about 30 mpg. But despite the press you hear about it, that car has been bullet-proof since 2004 !

Looking at the diesel Cruze as my next car once the VW :( and the Aveo are retired.

We'll be talking,
-- Andy

Welcome to the site Andy.

It does sound like you have some room for improvement. I've been able to pull around 40 mpg in my Aveo without any drastic driving techniques and zero modifications. It has a manual transmission of course, the auto is kind of notorious for bad mileage.

 on the B4! How much fuel can the sedan hold? I've wanted a B4v since, forever.

Eighteen (18) gallons! It's possible to get 800 miles on one tank if you drive it nice. I have the manual transmission - would be less for the automatic.

The only downside to the B4, it does not like sub/urban rush hour. If driven below 2K rpm (i.e. lugging or whenever you accelerate from a near stop) the crankcase vent area will coke up and costs about $500 to get cleaned out. So you have to keep it revving in traffic to avoid this.

18, is that with venting the tank? The TDIs were not available with Autos until the ALH.

CCV area? Are you referring to the EGR occluding the intake?
