New Ecomodder Padawan with a Civic Hatch

Hey guys, I bought a 92 CX earlier this year specifically for the MPG.
Since then, I have learned a lot more just lurking around different forums.

I have been averaging about 39 with my stock civic, however after doing a few tests I have noticed my car burns oil bad, my mechanic is almost certain its the piston rings. We changed valve seals to not much of an effect.

So I may need a new engine, hello to all and glad to be a part of these forums!

If you just need new rings, wouldn't it be much, much better to pull the head and install new rings, maybe give the cylinders a quick hone?

It would take longer but probably be cheaper than installing a whole new engine, wouldn't it?

This is one thing about the Honda universe I still haven't gotten my head around, Honda guys will change engines at the drop of a hat.

If the rings are bad then the engine need to be pulled and totally disassembled. Then the cylinders will likely need to be bored out one size over and honed to final diameter by a machine shop. Then new pistons and rings will be needed. Just about everything else besides the seals and bearings can be reused.

Because they are throw away engines.
