new to forum

Hi all, so after months of reading this forum ive joined up

my current drive is a 2000 Skoda 1.3 mpi estate :turtle: which im fighting to keep at 40 mpg, as fuel prices are never going to come down and my 300 mile a week comute isnt going to get shorter i need to improve my fuel comsumption just to stay on an even keel.. :(

my driving duty cycle is about 50% town and 50% motorway so:
do i buy a light car and make it aerodynamic?
or by an aerodynamic car and make it light ?

im drawn towards a light car as F=MA but im all so more than aware that drag increases exponentialy with speed.

I have started to look at the Daewoo Matiz as my "first" ecomodder car as they are light, have reasonable mpg and have become cheap.

do any of you have any expeirance with this car ?
has anybody designed a retractable "boattail" ?

lets hear what you have to say

I'm from the other side of the pond so can't be of much help with vehicle choices but I welcome you to the site anyway.

I'd set up your gas tracker to follow your progress and keep reading. Even keeping the same car you can find mpg gains where you least expect it.

In the first 3 months of having my car after finding this site I thought 48 mpg was the absolute best mpg I could ever possibly get. Now I'm getting 54+ mpg 8 months out of the year and have spent less then $25 on mods in the process.
