New Guy

Hi to everyone. I have been building megasquirt powered cars for the last few years, all more power less mileage stuff. I recently got on the kick of working towards higher mileage instead of higher power, seemed like a noble and rewarding pursuit. I found this site right away when I searched for instant MPG gauges for megasquirt. I set up a 4th and 5th instant mpg gauge on my eagle talon which can only run E85 and started improving my driving with help from this site. I can manage 24mpg on E85 in the talon commuting to work, it has a high compression 2.4l engine. Well, the Talon isn't that reliable so I snatched up a 98 civc hx that is in really great shape. The first tank of gas yielded 43mpg. Last week I hooked up a vacuum gauge that I had laying around in the garage. My current tank is looking better but we will see. I went ahead and ordered an MPGuino today and look forward to the feedback from it. All of the vehicles I have driven for the last couple years have had megasquirt and wideband o2 gauges so I feel a little bit blind in the civic with no instrumentation. I have a 70 mile round trip commute that is half highway and half city. This site looks great and has already been a great help.

Looks like my MPGuino shipped, can't wait to get it installed. There are several things I am curious about as to which gives better mileage.

And 5 years later: The Civic HX is still going and being driven daily by my son. Has 216k miles on it now. What a great car it turned out to be for a purchase price of $3K. I have driven the prius daily for the last couple years. Now I am starting a electric conversion to be my daily driver. The technology has come so far for EV conversions that I must build one now.
