Hello everyone, I'm just getting into this and am currently only in the research phase of buying a car. I have been a gear head my entire life but mostly have only cared about performance in terms of speed. The fact that my current car is a '08 Bullitt Mustang is most likely sacrilegious on this forum but with all the car companies going green I figured I'd give it a try and not just in the paint color. I am looking at buying a VW Jetta tdi 5 speed, from around 2000 as that seems to be their mpg peak. Any Advice on what to look for in the car itself or what to avoid?

My sister has an 03 TDI and she loves it. She is no hypermiler, but in summer routinely gets around 50 mpg out of the car.

Thanks, glad to know the 50 mpg mark is easily obtained with normal driving makes my goals seem more obtainable. Also glad to hear she loves it, after all that's whats really important.
