New Guy from WI

Hello,
I found this site after reading about hypermilling and did a search. I have a 95 Toyota Tacoma 2wd extracab v6 with a 5 speed. I have always kept track of my mileage by writing it down in a little book that I keep in my glovebox. My dad used to do this and he said that it was a good way to see if your car was running properly. I have 177,700 miles on my truck and during the summer I have averaged 22-23mpg in everyday driving since I have owned it. I usually drive half city and half hwy. Since I have been trying some of the tips on this site and some from an email about how to fill up your gas tank, I have been averaging 27mpg. Today when I filled up I got 28.13mpg!!! I am now trying to see what else I can do to get it up to 30mpg. I am very happy with this since my truck is rated at 19/23mpg.

that a nice increase, My 2005 colorado rated at 25 highway I'm able to pull 35mpg from it .. I however have a scangauge and yours is 1 year to old for a scan gauge.. install a vacuum gauge in the cab for monitoring the vacuum.. try to keep as much vacuum as possible on the gauge. thats what I do in my 88 CRX works pretty good.

Instrimentation of what your motor is doing is pretty key to getting good MPG.. even if its just a vacuum gauge

Why cant I use a scangauge? What changed on the 96 Tacoma that makes them work with one? Thanks for your help.

Scangauge works off the OBD II port which wasn't equipped on vehicles pre-1996

Some vehicles before 1996 had OBDII. The Tacoma is listed as being compatible.

Welcome to ecomodder. Definitely pick up a scangauge or mpguino, :)
