New here, need info on D15 Vtec-e into 88 CRX HF

Hello all, new here and currently sporting a 1988 CRX HF with D16a6 swap with HF tranny.

I'm looking to pick up the D15b Vtec-E from here.

Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD - D15B SOHC VTEC-E Engine only Honda Civic 92-95

I was wondering, is the motor OBD I and what ECU should I run w/ it.

I'm also looking to replace the tranny, with the 92-95 D tranny that came in the DX. Is there any way of doing this? I have a cable car whilst the tranny is a hydro.

thanks.

The HF tranny is a long geared transmission that will work well with the VTEC-E. If it is tired, you will need a hydro to cable converion kit to run a newer tranny, which can be around $200, better to stick with the cable tranny imo.
Being a former engine importer, I will warn you that Tiger has ripped people off and sold them bad engines, beware.
You will need to get an OBD-0 to OBD-1 ECU conversion harness. Being you have MPI already it's plug and play pretty much. The VTEC-E has some different O2 sensor wiring so you may have to swap a few wires around and be sharp with schematics and wiring to make that part work right, you need the wideband oxy sensor of the VTEC-E, and it's an expensive sensor.
The 88HF is one of the lightest models and one of the best oem shapes honda made for efficency. Potential is there for 50mpg plus, properly setup.

Did any usdm civic come with the vtec-e? Can I get a typical chipped ecu and tune it to the motor and still manage to successfully run it?

Thanks for the reply.

Civic VX came with the VTEC-E, you could also go with a HX engine from the 1996+ Civic as well but I think the E is a better MPG performer.
The VX engine is a common pullout for those swapping to B-series, look around and it won't be hard to find.
P07 is the ECU code for the VX engine.
Don't know your location but a friend of mine now has my import business and has a 3-stage VTEC engine for sale, I posted it in the for sale section here for him. It's similar to the VTEC-E with lean burn but has another stage of VTEC that's 130HP.

I just completed the JDM Three stage D15b vtec swap in my HF. Good engine and good complement to the HF transmission.

Absolutely keep the HF trans! It is the tallest-geared D-series trans that I know of.
