new to hypermiling and buying an accent
 

I have been hunting for tips to save gas for the last year or so, but this is the first I happened upon a forum about it.
Cant wait to test out these new techniques on my new car next weekend. I used to own an NX2000 and with a few years of engine tuning, I was able to get 30mpg average while still driving like an a**hole.

I prefer driving like an a-hole, but gas is hurting me, physically, no lubrication. :eek:

Welcome! Have you already bought the Accent? My ex had a 1999 Accent, and it was the worst piece of junk. The car was not more than 5 years old, and there were things breaking off the car like it was glued together with elmers wood glue(wood glue don't work on plastic).

I could list the things that went wrong, but I don't have that much time.

Get a Toyota or some other Japanese car, Korean cars are doomed to dissapoint. If you already got it good luck.

Well, if we're going to go by the I knew one guy argument... I've got a 99 Elantra that I purchased new. It has left me stranded once. The coil pack that controls the #1 & #3 cylinders picked a bad day to die. That incident, and the lack of funds, fried the cat later down the line as the engine lugging tore a hole in the flexible exhaust pipe. The cats were replaced under warranty (even though I was at fault). I still drive this car today and it has 110k miles on it.

My 88 Civic went through numerous amounts of axle boots, and a fair share of half shafts. It left me stranded when a timing belt snapped, and that was the end of that car.

My 93 Accord only went through 1 half shaft, but it left me stranded 4 times in the same year. The Accord also left me without lights when the stalk on the steering column broke. And the A/C unit needed to be recharged. And the exhaust starting from the cat to the rear needed to be replaced. Granted, I was living in the rust belt in PA.

My 01 Escape blew it's transmission at 35,920 miles (just inside the warranty). My 89 Caravan fell apart with the 3 months that I was driving it (transmission started going south, electric gremlins in the wiring). My 88 LeBaron went through two head gaskets.

Of the cars I've owned, my 99 Elantra and 06 Sedona have been the most trouble free.

yeah I have heard mixed reviews about this car, but I am hoping the warranty is an indication of hyundai standing behind it.
