New Member -1991 Geo Metro XFI

Hey guys picked up a 1991 Geo Metro XFI 75,000 miles great shape. Been really browsing internet trying to find ways to get the best mpg out of this thing i can. I have already removed back seat and looking at getting 14 inch wheels. Really loving this site already.Any ideas on how to get this thing to top of the mpg train let me know. Thanks

Hey first fuel up got 50.7MPG!! think i would of got a lot better if i didn't hot rod for the first 150 miles. really no mods except backseat removal. Going to try and find some 14's and tires and muffler mine currently has huge hole in it. Beats my 94 Toyota pickup at 15mpg.

You already have a nice tall gear ratio, so I'd recommend going easy on tire diameters, and shopping for lowest rolling resistance. Taller, wider tires push more air. You are really polishing a jewel there - aero detailing is probably the best way to improve it more.

Make sure that if the underside, and ESPECIALLY the front control arm mount areas are miraculously rust free or at least in reasonably solid condition, be sure to get a rust barrier coating, or take extra care in keeping that area rust free. These cars are extremely susceptible to rust damage that could put you up the creek some fateful day.

Like Bicycle Bob said, aerodynamics are your best friend here. Try to get it so that when you get a little above the speed you want to go, then put it in neutral, it will coast at a reasonable speed for that road for as long as possible. Most cars without modifications of this nature have very poor coastdown distance.
