Thought I would pop in and say hi. Mostly here to lurk. Mostly looking for ways to improve fuel economy beyond the same stuff you hear everywhere like tire pressure, engine maintenance, unload the unnecessary cargo, etc.

I drive a 4WD 95 Geo tracker. So far I have done some weight reduction in the neighborhood of 100lbs (removal of rear seats and seat belt towers, carpet and sound deadening) and installed a vacuum gauge. From the factory this vehicle had some eco friendly mods already... no power steering, no power windows or locks, no A/C, a 16 valve aluminum block engine, manual transmission and some skinny 205/75R15 tires.

I was getting about 24MPG before I installed the vacuum gauge. Afterward the economy has started to increase but not enough fill ups to see what the average is yet.

I'd recommend gettin an MPGuino digital MPG gauge (works on pre-OBDII vehicles). The vac gauge is useful. But an accurate, resettable MPG computer/display is the way to go.

Welcome to the forum!

I read about MPGuino but can't even find how much one costs... out of 2 tanks so far the fuel economy after watching the vacuum gauge has increased 2 and 3MPG respectively. I haven't come up with enough data to get an accurate average gain yet. I would like to try to get at least 3 or 4 tanks before calculating an average gain.

I also try to go at least 300 kilometers before filling. I know the fewer gallons put in the more error in the calculations.

dont forget to pump up the psi in the tires!

Yup I make sure I check the tire pressure weekly

Yeah, I'm not sure either (MPGuino cost). Post a question in that subforum.
