Just signed up & saying Hi,
I am looking at a fork lift based type of conversion like the Forkenswift on my 1988 Toyota Corolla 5dr Liftback 5speed manual, Kerb weight is 900kg, in excellent condition, was my daily driver so I know the car well, no rust, only 165,000kms etc. Wanted something smaller, & because it is in such good condition I have decided to stick with it. Not quite too sure what to be looking for in a donor Fork Lift so any help there would be appreciated. My domain name ec0car.com will be used to follow the project. So Hi to everyone from New Zealand. |
Welcome, looking forward to see your project unfold

Hi Nigel,
We chose the forklift we bought based solely on its price ($500 CAD for the entire thing) and the fact that we thought its drive motor was the right size to fit in place of the car's ICE. (Turned out the e-motor's length was OK, but not its diameter. Oops! Thanks to sheer dumb luck, we also had the option of the smaller dia. hydraulic pump motor to use instead.) If you have a forklift service co in your area or someplace that is selling/scrapping used ones, I'd just start by going and talking to the folks there to see what's available. Bring a tape measure. I'd say you'll be looking for a 7-9 inch diameter series motor for your size of car, as a rough measure. Welcome to the forum! Darin |
