New member here, 2003 SVT Cobra, getting 14mpg.

Hey, I'm Mike. I stumbled upon this website and I'm really enjoying it so far. Working with cars has been a hobby of mine for years and this is the first place I've seen with this much info about mpg improvements. I drive around 30,000 miles a year so any extra mpg will pay off quickly. Here's what I'm working with:

2003 Mustang Cobra in avatar, with a few mods, making around 500 horsepower(crank). I'm averaging 14mpg per tank, best was 20mpg on the long ride home after purchasing the car(the only time I babied it) I've always envied the mpg that some of my friends knock down with their LSx powered GTO's/Vetts/CTS-Vs. Right now I know that I can make an increase with a new tune, the one it's running on now is very rich. I also believe putting the cats back in would help. I drive this car very rarely. On the SVT forums I've seen a couple people get 26/27 mpg, but little attention is on economy on those sites.

1998 Cavalier, 2.2, 205,000 miles. Only getting around 25mpg in this cold weather. Best is 28mpg in the spring. It's biggest restriction is the 3 speed automatic. Today I switched out the air filter and put in some new platinum plugs that are 1 heat range warmer. We'll see if that makes a small improvement.

1995 Accord 2.2, 350,000+ miles. Original engine/auto trans. Gets a solid 28mpg driving conservatively. Best mpg was 31 but that was back around 220,000 miles.

This link 100+ Hypermiling Tips helped me squeeze over 30 MPG out of my 2007 Mustang V-6. Good luck with your quest for better mpg.
Don't click on any of the "fuel saving" ads below my post. None of those gimmicks work.

Did you ever own a SVO mustang?

Breaking 30 would be awesome, I'm kind of dreading it but I think I'm going to have to put the stock midpipe back in.

Before you bother with mods, worry about changing your driving habits. I would guess your midpipe will have little, if any, affect on mileage once your driving habits have improved.

Check your tire pressure. Keep it at the max rated pressure (or higher if you feel comfortable with that) for best mileage.

Get an UltraGauge if you want to spend a little money to improve your mileage. That helped me more than anything.
