New Member here to learn...
Greetings All,
I stumbled across this site whilst looking for information on how to convert a gas burner to an electric or hybrid. Yeah! Someplace where others care about this stuff too. :) At this time we own a 93 Geo Tracker (2wd) which will probably be the *project car* if I can get someone else (hubby) interested in doing it...and a 91 Ford Ranger 4WD. We need the 4WD a lot where we live to get off our street, so it will stay, for that purpose, and hopefully the Tracker wil get converted in the near future. We originally wanted to buy a hybrid, as at least a start towards becoming fossil fuel free, although an electric was another thought. After researching the prices and so on, it appears conversion may be our only option for qhite a while...either that or a second mortgage on our house! (not something we really want, as we are also trying to become debt free as well) Anyways, you will notice I ramble a lot, sorry in advance but there you have it... Cheers, Shadowe |
the ranger might make a great offroad electric, the weight of the batteries will help with traction in snow, and mud. electric motors are highly efficient at low speed with tons of torque. a small generator/charger in the bed takes care of range when you are off grid for a while. check out EVParts

Welcome to ecomodder! Good thing that tracker is 2wd, I know the 4wd models can suck gas like no tomorrow.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will probably be really quiet for a while as I take in all the poor old brain can manage...that and I am working on 13 days straight at work. LOL

Welcome to EM! It's a lot to absorb in one go. When you crunch the numbers, sticking with "what you got" is usually the right thing to do. CarloSW2 |
Definitely thinking that sticking with what we have is a good place to start, but possible to step up if/when we remodel/refinance our small house...time will tell.
In the meantime I am buried in reading up on things, and learning more about the Small House movement as well. We already live *Small* but need to minimalize somewhat...so, that is the challenge of this fall...remove excess. :D Cheers, Shadowe *wandering off to lurk and read some more* |
