New member, new-to-me 2000 VW Beetle, running Biodiesel

Hello all,

I just bought a 2000 VW Beetle Diesel and I running my first tank of biodiesel! I am interested in eco-mods, hypermiling, the works! Especially interested in those practices/mods that are the most practical (high bank for buck).

Greetings to everyone!

Brett

Welcome Brett... Congrats on getting a VW TDI... is it automatic or manual gearbox?

Standard gearbox...love that stick shift! Fun!

Awesome! Standard is the way to go! Seems that getting the same FE on a Beetle as on a Golf or Jetta is tough to do, but you can still get some pretty darn good FE with the Beetle. :)

I just bought a 2000 Beetle TDI 5speed. I'm lovin it! How's the biodiesel going?
I'm just using what's available. Love's has a B6-20 range depending on the time of year & location. Right now it's B15.

Nacht, why doesn't the Beetle get the same FE? It's built on a Golf platform from what I've gleaned!

Thanks,
Dave

What's up? Do you have a TDI? Last tank was 49.87MPG all stock on B15 Biofuel from the local Love's Truck Center!

I was under the general impression that VWs didn't like biodiesel and that it causes alot of problems in the long term.

I had a 2016 Golf TDI hire car a few weeks back and that had several warning labels saying not to use biodiesel. I did consider it strange as the 'regular' diesel is partly dilutled with biodiesel (up to 30% in Sweden depending on where you go) but I assumed that they meant pure or high percentage biodiesel.

I'm not going to run more than B20 for now. Guys do run a straight veggie oil two tank system in the older ALH & PD engines!
