Hi all, just a quick introduction,

I've just switched cars in an attempt to cut my fuel bill and since then discovered this site.

I've got a '99 Nissan Micra very similar to the attached picture.

I'm planning on obtaining data with a small netbook plugged via USB into the Nissan Consult port. This will be teamed up with ECUtalk software:

ecutalk.com can't post links I'm new!

This should give me MPG (or more accurately, litres per 100km) and full data logging of my driving style.

So far my mpg (as done by full tank fill-up calculations) i'm getting less than 40mpg (33MPG US), which is terrible compared to some people on here.

so... any initial tips?

Hello fellow UK ecomodder :) :)

I took my time to go through and apply some of the 100+ Hypermiling tips and have massively improved my economy just by the way I drive. Also, first things first, increase your tyre pressures. Ive got mine at the maximum sidewall rating on my tyres (45psi) although some people run a tad lower, some run higher still.
This can make a decent difference :) I think a little Micra should be able to crack more than 40, dependent on driving style of course :)

Good luck :)

So far, over a grand total of #40 miles, my datalogging suggests a figure of around 40mpg (US: 33 ish) in purely urban driving with no extra special driving tricks.

In total the data I acquire on each trip is as follows: Time, RPM, Timing, Throttle, Air flow, AAC(no idea what this is!), O2 sensor(seems to fluctuate wildly with no discernible pattern), injector (pulse width), battery Volts, Duty cycle, Speed (kph) Water temp, Economy (l/100km), distance travelled, fuel used, trip l/100km and 2 A/F measurements, again not exactly sure what they are.
