I just found this site looking for info on Puch mopeds. Go figure.
Anyway interesting.
I AM a self proclaimed gas mileage wieney. I have two mercedes benz diesel cars. They get very good mileage and at the same time are very comfortable to drive.
The 300 series; both of them.

I have a gas hog pickup that I rarely drive it sits in the yard most of the time. The only reason we have it is because we live on a small farm and need something to pull a stock trailer. We take the insurance off it in the winter. It is two wheel drive.
You know how hard it it is to find a two wheel drive pickup in the USA??????

Oh I like to drive mopeds when it is suitable. . . excellent fuel economy . . .besides . . .it sooths my inner biker ;>)
