New York State EV $2000 rebate. Not!
 

The NY state Governor signed the bill for a $2000 state rebate for the lease or purchase of an electric car on April 1st, 2016. I tried to use it today toward the excellent lease deal Nissan is currently offering on the 2016 Leaf.

The Bill is passed and signed but was handed off to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority for implementation. The program is still sitting there inactive and they tell me they legally have one year from the signed date to start the program.

Oh well. Maybe next year. The intention is to increase early adoption of EV's since upstate NY has the cleanest grid in the country but any prospective buyers in NY will now be waiting.

What is the Nissan lease terms?

I think Chevy is offering the Spark for $100 month, with zero down.

Spark EV is not sold in NY and the only incentive I see on it is $1000 off. Follow the link to Nissan to see the Leaf lease special. Lease for 3 years and then buy would be about $17,500 plus tax for an S24 with charger upgrade to 6.6kW and dc fast. Many Nissan dealers are installing a 50kW fast charger.

Waiting a bit might be a good thing. The longer-range leaf is coming soon.

They won't be giving the new Leaf away. That, and the Bolt, and the Model 3 are the reason you can get a 2016 Leaf for barely more than half price. I only need 40 miles each way and I can charge at work.
