Newbie

I'm newly registered but have been lurking :cool:for awhile. I have a '13 Nissan Versa S sedan with the 1.6 L engine and a five speed standard. No tach, but I do have an instant MPG readout in my car's info center. My normal gas mileage in a 50/50 city-highway tank fill is 37, which is more than the EPA highway rating for my car. I have been trying some of the tips I've read on here, I recently averaged 52 mpg on a trip to see family where the route is 1/2 Interstate and 1/2 rural hilly highway. I time stoplights, coast downhill, chug uphill with a constant throttle position, 'dfco coast' up to stopsigns, and turn off the engine at stoplights that I know last a long time. My default speed on the highway is 55 mph :turtle: unless it's posted 65 or higher, then it's 5 mph below the limit unless I can draft someone going the limit:thumbup:.

The Nissan gets the best mileage of any car I've ever had, handily beating my old three cylinder 92 Subaru Justy.

Welcome to the "House of Frugal-motorvating"!

Sounds like you've progressed well 'beyond' the newbie ecodriver, congratulations!

Nice work! My Nissan doesn't get anything like that.

Welcome. Nice number too. Start a fuel log here so we can all track your progress, but also to give you an easy way to gauge how much money you are saving throuh careful driving. EM's fuel logs estimate your your savings automatically whenever you have entered the EPA rating and the price you paid per gallon.

A belated welcome.

Since I learned how the manufacturers/EPA does fuel economy testing of cars with manual transmissions (http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ing-27416.html ) , I'm less surprised than ever that a motivated eco-driver such as yourself is beating the pants off the official rating.

Congrats!
