Newbie here.

Been into cars for a while, and the whole eco modding is a bit new to me, but I hope to learn more.

So far I have a 1998 Honda Civic DX with a 5spd manual tranny. With mixed driving I have obtained 35mpg when I first got it. Now during the same trips I get around 40. I have light weight wheels, intake/exhuast, did a full tune up, and eased off the gas. With more highway I've reached as high as 45 mpg, and that was before I did quite a few things. In a few weeks I'll let you all know what it pegs at.

Hope to learn more this looks like a cool place to hang out.

Welcome to ecomodder! Sounds like you are doing pretty well with the fuel economy. You might just find a way to do even better here.

Welcome to the site. The Civic can hit some pretty great numbers. Keep us up to date. :)

I sort of guessed that from your username :)

35 to 40 is a great start. That alone would make a lot of people happy. Glad to hear you're aiming for more.

Welcome to the site.

Your getting great gas mileage already!

Welcome

What would you guys recommend doing? Is there anything civic specific that I could do?

I can't really do any grille blocks because of the weather here, it gets quite hot here.

I've already done some lower profile mirrors, and not too long ago I deleted the powersteering. I don't really want to do any wheel skirts, since I don't think they look good. I thought about making something to keep the air from getting trapped in my rear bumper.

I'm pretty good at hypermiling. Most of that comes naturally to me.

Welcome to ecomodder! Throw an HX engine and EG cx/vx tranny in there, :)

Are your tires inflated to max sidewall? If not thats a good place to start. Also, a scangauge is a great tool to have.

I wouldn't discount grill blocks yet. I think two other Civic owners are running FULL blocks minus about a 4"x4" opening. It wouldn't take much more even with higher temps. As it is stock you probably have a lot of area you can still cover up.

Tire psi is set at 32 front and 34 rear. I may start running them at 35 all around. Max is 44psi.

Well I don't have anything major work done yet...just a short ram intake, high flow muffler, HX rims (11lbs a piece), low profile mirrors, a front lip.

Most of the time when I say highway I'm talking 70mph interstate speeds.

I may do a full upper grill block soon. I'm not gonna do a full lower though, maybe a partial.

Welcome to the site. Sounds like you are doing well with that car already. Have you tried doing some weight reduction?
