Newbie, maybe most non-typical vehicle...
 

From Denton, TX. Found this site thru a series of searches about tire width's effect on MPG. My vehicle of concern is a 3/4 ton diesel 4x4 truck. I get close to 20 mpg on highway trips with some curious results by increasing the average mph.

I'll start a thread but will read some more first. Thanks for letting me join!!

Sometimes a vehicle's MPG is higher at slightly higher speeds because of the gearing putting the engine in a more efficient RPM bracket.

As for wider tires, the wider they are, the more air they have to move around themselves... Narrower tires are better for MPG's.

Welcome to the site leojr. Your vehicle isn't non-typical here, we have plenty of truck drivers.

I have to say that increasing speed is VERY rarely ever going to get you better mileage. If we look at every speed vs mpg chart we have, it backs up that (in top gear) lower speeds equals better mileage. There is only one exception that I've ever seen and the mpg gain was very minimal.

In any case, aeromods are your friend to increasing mileage at any speed faster than walking. I'd look into them.

For me, 57-59 stays more efficient than 50-55, but that is because of the reason Doax said. I rarely see it otherwise, and I usually hear "my car is more efficient at ~75 than ~60..." from people who do not use instruments or really care...lol

Which truck do you have? BTW if they offer some poor mileage you might actually look at it as some room for improvements...
