Newbie w/ a BMW 318ti

Hello all,
Just thought I'd introduce my self.

I've been driving my 318 for ten years and she has 230k on her
I commute 100 miles a day on long flat Fl highways
it makes ridge riding and constant throttle driving easier.

I have changed the rear diff to a 2.79lsd from a E30 eta
Put on taller skinnier tires

If do all highway driving I can get up to 39mpg.

Was the Diff swap a bolt-in for your 318 ? I had been thinking of getting a 325eta as a highyway machine but maybe your high geared 4 cylinder swap is even better !

Diff Swap

The ti's use the E30 rearend
All other E36 use a newer E36 rear

The Eta rear is a bolt in for the ti, and they are cheap because no one wants them.

If you were to buy an E36 318 to get four doors, then you could use a six cylinder 2.93 and get the same result.

Or just get a 1991 318i, which is an E30 body style with four doors and buy an Eta diff.

Really cool setup you have there. Not many people are confident enough to do that with a BMW.

Thanks for sharing!

We are glad to have you here at Ecomodder.com!

I used to drive one of those. I swapped in a 3.64 from the original 4.1. It was a good compromise. E30s had an over drive 5th so the ETA diff would 20% taller than in the E36.
cheers
