Nissan almera/pulsar? Question about front bumper fog light holes
 

I was wondering how big difference it would make if i made covers for those foglight holes.
Drivers side air blows straight towards the front tyre, because of the broken inner fender/mudguard.

In the cold season i keep both grilles blocked.

The foglight hole covers would of course cover the whole "scoop" you see in the bumper, extending to the edge of that lower grille.

Any thoughts?

IIRC Mercedes deliberately vents the front wheel wells from slots and ducts in the front bumper to lower air resistance. The wheel well is an aerodynamic mess anyway.

The scoop is functional, as you want to contain a bubble of slow moving air up front. That bubble gently moves the air around and over the car. Without the bubble there'd be more friction around the edges. Better not cover it.

My old '98 Almera had plates over the foglight holes. And it got mediocre fuel economy; the high-revving DOHC 1.6 and short gears made ecodriving hard. I got it up to maybe 35 mpg by sticking to the right lane, following semis at a respectful distance.

20 years and still soldiering on... Do you garage yours?
Mine was an absolute rustbucket 6 years ago. I fixed some holes with glass mats and resin, but when the fuel tank started to leak I had enough and sold it.

In the cold season i keep it inside the warmish garage so i dont have to scrape my windows 5.00 in the morning :D
My almera is pretty badly rusted in the back corners, planning on welding it during this summer. Maybe get it inspected one last time. If not, scrap. 275k kms on the odo now.
It has the 1.4 engine which also has slightly longer gears.

So, to the original topic, better leave those holes open then? :thumbup:

I haven't put as much research in as MB, but I'd say yes :)

What you have now is not a front-wheelwell air curtain. The air would have to be channeled so it [effectively] 'blows' across the face of the wheel.

If there is the least concern in you mind I'd go with Dagmars. :thumbup:
