97 ranger not compatible with scan guage

The scan guage folks have advised that my ranger is not completely compatible with the scan quage and that they do not plan to go to the trouble to fix the problem. The scan quage will not display speed, distance, or fuel economy. Does anyone know what I could do to remedy the problem. I think that I read some where that the 1997 doesn't have a VSS.

I would appreciate any feedback you might provide.

If the truck has no VSS, you can add a magnetic pickup to the drive shaft and use it with an MPGuino (I'm assuming it's fuel injected).

I seriously considered a '97 2.3L Ranger that was for sale in my area...until I read that it's incompatible with the scangauge.

It has a VSS, it is just really weird. The MPGuino will work with an additional component(still learning this myself) In short, the ranger VSS is similar to an AC sine wave and we need a DC wave?

97 Ranger

Gents,

Thanks for the info. If I understand what your are saying, the magnetic pickup is simply providing a means of by passing the Ford VSS. Just wire it to the mpguino and I'm in business?

You could do that, yes. Or it seems there's a workaround to the issue in the thread myplasticegg posted: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...-vss-6956.html
