North Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina Meet?

3 Attachment(s)
There is finally a decent amount of people on the EM user map, and a few are around my area, yay! Thanks to PM-pestering, i've got another 2 on the map, 1 pending.

No dates or locations are set in stone, just testing the waters. We can probably plan on a month out so we have time to get the location and notify people. I don't know about you people, but i'd be willing to drive 100 miles or so for a meet.
Attachment 22554

I know there are a ridiculous number of lurkers compared to members, and I know lots of people live in Atlanta, so if you want some say in this, sign up and pitch in!

Here is a map of the general area and members around the meet. The circles represent potential locations, the two arrows are members whose locations are known, but are not on the map.
Attachment 22555

Since the map is so hard to read, the locations circled are Helen, Blue Ridge, and Murphy.

Please offer up availabilities, maximum driving distance, etc. I want as many people to show up as possible. 3 people isn't a crowd. I would be bringing a brother or two, maybe a friend assuming they would be willing to go the distance.

Assuming 100% participation, we've got 9 members, excluding the guy IN Atlanta who I cant find a corresponding EM account for. I COULD bring along 3 people, Natalya said she could bring someone last time we tried to schedule a meet, so we've got 13 people best case without any lurker non-members showing up.

Natalya 08-31-2017 06:40 PM

I have a friend with a G1 Insight who lives southeast of Atlanta. I doubt they'll want to go too far north of the city. I'll personally go 100 miles. Right now I only have my G2 Insight operational, if I ever get my red G1 back then I'd take that car instead.

What does a venue need? Just a parking lot?

If y'all want to go east Atlanta the warehouse where I work could be a location. We have 1 car bay and lots of tools if people wanted to work on their cars, but there isn't a lift. I do have ramps though.

Daschicken 08-31-2017 09:10 PM

Interesting proposition, we'll have to see what our northern members say about that. Let's see who wants to come.

I am available:

Monday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with at least a week's notice

I am willing to drive around 100 miles.

Vman455 09-01-2017 12:24 AM

I'll actually be in Chattanooga Sept. 18-22 (checking out the area because I might move there). If you do something then, I'll join in. I was planning on hitting Atlanta at some point anyway before I head home.

I don't think that's a great idea for me. I'm a bit like Ozzy Osbourne, I won't go anywhere without my wife. And frankly the hypermiling I do is a stress point between us, so going somewhere specifically in support of it and nothing else would not be conducive to domestic harmony, which I value more than fuel economy.

Sorry guys. I have to say no.

Sounds reasonable, thanks for pitching in. You are pretty far north. I guess this means we can rule out murphy.

So we have one more member who I haven't heard from yet who is north, if I get no response, or they decide not to go, then I think Natalya's warehouse east of Atlanta sounds like a great option.

aardvarcus 09-05-2017 07:58 AM

Hey everyone,

A meetup in the area sounds like a great idea, unfortunately I am a bit covered up right now between work and other priorities so I will have to pass this time. Looking forward to another one in the future.

Again, thanks for pitching in!

Well, that covers the northern members, murphy is definitely out! Sounds like Natalya's warehouse is in! Now we just need to hear from our eastern members. Among them is basjoos!

So, I could be available on the 18th or the 22nd, not in between though. Vman, you in?

Daschicken 09-07-2017 02:38 PM

Bring your friends, looks like mobilone is going to be busy. Still no word from basjoos or the other guy north of him.

We still need confirmation if the 18th or 22nd work for you people. I want an accurate headcount of who can show up.

Natalya 09-09-2017 02:14 AM

18 and 22 are weekdays. Are weekends no good?

I can do weekends, its just Vman said they were available between those dates. I am not available tuesday-thursday.

Vman455 09-10-2017 08:14 AM

For an Atlanta meet, the 18th is out for me. I could do the 22nd, but only lunchtime or earlier--have to be back in Champaign Saturday morning.

Daschicken 09-19-2017 05:42 PM

Alrighty peeps, how about NEXT saturday/sunday, not this one. So that would be September 30, or October 1. I'll try again with our eastern members such as BASJOOS!!!!! and RandomFact314.

If not, I still want to make this happen, even if I can only meet one member, that's a start. We'll try another one next year, hopefully have more participants.

basjoos 09-22-2017 04:33 PM

Been busy taking care of hurricane related damage around the farm so haven't been online much of late. Where is Natalya's warehouse located so I can get an idea of how far this proposed drive is. Weekends or weekdays ok but would want to avoid tbe Atlanta rush hours.

Dunno yet, Natalya will have to pitch in.

I am probably not going to be able to get off work on Saturday the 30th, so it looks like Sunday October 1st will be our day.

Natalya 09-22-2017 06:08 PM

Sat 30th or Sun 1st works great for me.

2964 Alcove Drive
Scottdale, GA 30079

Atlanta has the I-285 highway around it, we call it the perimeter. This location is "ITP" or "inside the perimeter" on the east side a few miles north of I-20.

We've got a parking lot and 1 drive-in bay and some car tools I'll bring my stuff, we could like build under-body aero panels out of coroplast and do other fun stuff if people were into that sort of thing.

Awesome! I've still got some coroplast signs from a junkyard trip, so i'll bring those. Maybe i'll finally install the side skirts that I built. :o

As stated before, I'm 95% sure I can't get off work on Saturday, so Sunday it is. How does 11 AM sound?

Natalya 09-23-2017 04:09 AM

Okay, Sunday next week, 11AM.

I extended the invite to the Insight Central community as well.

One of my coworkers owns my old G1 Insight, hopefully she can come. There's also someone who has a G1 Insight that lives in the apartment complex behind the warehouse. I will probably go down there and leave a note on their windshield a day or two before lol.

I hope someone with a manual transmission G1 HCH shows up.

Natalya 09-25-2017 12:02 PM

My coworker's G1 Insight might be hogging the garage. The serpentine belt snapped and the head gasket might also be blown. She's sitting in the bay now.

Does the serpentine belt drive the water pump, or is that otherwise unrelated?

Natalya 09-27-2017 02:30 AM

Yup the belt drives the water pump. Also, turns out the belt tensioner is seized, which is probably why the belt snapped. New belt hasn't come in yet, but tomorrow I'm hitting AutoZone to get a new bearing for the tensioner. Hopefully I can get that replaced before the belt arrives.

Natalya 09-28-2017 10:18 PM

Silver Insight drives again!! The garage will be free.

Anyone else coming except Daschicken?

Good, cause I just borked my left side axle by bump starting in reverse. :o It would click when pulling away from stops, it was probably already on its last legs and that bump set it off. (No I don't have the part yet) Now it makes an awful clunking noise when turning hard left.

I can probably bring a friend or two, I know one of them kind of wanted me to make a drag wing for them. Any interest from insightcentral?

If i'm not bringing more than one passenger, i'll probably bring a bicycle so I can do some dank woolies.

Natalya 10-01-2017 02:08 PM

We did underbody aero panels!

Daschicken installs two more panels under his Accord.

He helped me put some more under my G2 Insight as well.

DSMHondaGuy 01-12-2018 08:57 AM

I'm on the map now, NE Georgia. Natalya, what material is that paneling made from?

Well maybe you can come to the next georgia meet we have. The panels are made from coroplast, same material used to make small signs. You can get 4'x8' sheets of it from home depot for $15. Mildly heat form-able, light, waterproof, easy to work with. What's not to love? Well, I do have one thing, adhesives don't like to stick to it very well. Although there was a tip video posted recently that suggested using heat to get adhesives to stick better.

DSMHondaGuy 01-12-2018 06:40 PM

I would like that. I'm curious, I'm wanting to compare using the coroplast to using some of the thin scrap sheet aluminum I have collected at work.
