Notable Road Vehicles in Film and TV
A thread for video of notable cars, truck, motorcycles, and any other "road vehicle" found in films or TV shows, ads, or news pieces. They can be OEM or DIY... conceptual, manufactured, or hairbrained--plans or pics of existent vehicles--but not fictional vehicles. So no chitty-chitty-bang-bang, or back tot the future Deloreans or Jetsons flying cars, please.
I thought of this as I tried to find an episode of "PM Magazine" from the 1980s that I remember. That episode featured a DIY Ford that two guys claimed they had modified to get something like 84 MPG. I could not find it. I swear I saw it on the air in the 1980s. Been a long time though, so maybe a unicorn has infected my brain. Are you thinking of the Moody diesel Capri? http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...sel-18815.html

In a somewhat similar storyline of a great idea for a mass produced econo car that never took off, Victor Wouk was credited by some as pitching the idea of the first modern hybrid car which I think was a modded '72 Buick Skylark 4 door. His plans met a similar fate according to what I've read. Some guy from the EPA Apparently had it in for Wouk. Smokey Yunick's hot vapor high mpg Pontiac Fiero and I'm sure there are more out there. I don't know if Smokey had plans to sell to the public ever. Sorry I can't post links for these gentlemen and their ideas from my phone. Someone with more money and brains than I will ever have should do a show/movie whatever you want to call it about these men and their ideas and what the real reasons were that they never happened. |

The thread will never reach it's full potential w/o the Herkimer Battle Jitney. but, O.P.'s rules so I'll go with the Woodruff Special. It exists, there're witnesses and everything.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIAEgy4mibI How about a movie where the car is the star? http://www.busmovie.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS-FNvikCBo |

Cool. Watching that makes it seem a little like Craig Anderson was Elon Musk without the billions in personal fortune to get over the rough patches in financing and sales.
Bogart in the Big Sleep drove a 1938 Plymouth Delux. Here it is: http://www.imcdb.org/i009700.jpg That VW Bus video was fun too. Makes you wanna go out and get one (until you remember how much work they reportedly need all the time). |
