The NYT Rhapsodizes the Original Insight

This popped up on my news feed this afternoon:

His records show he has averaged 56 m.p.g. over all those years. “It saved us so much money in gasoline and pollution,” he said. “You felt all the bumps. You heard all the noise. But the fuel economy trumped all that.”
At 56 lifetime mpg in a manual G1 Insight I think it's safe to assume he never stumbled across this site. If I would have ever logged a 56 mpg tank in my Insight I'd have been tightening plugs, checking ground straps, cleaning EGR valves . . . etc with a horrified look on my face until I figured out what the issue was

Although his statement pretty much sums up this site

I suspect the steep dirt roads and New Hampshire winters had something to do with it.

EDIT:
Also the difference between 55 mpg and 75 mpg at the miles he was driving is $4 a week. Not a lot of people are going to go through much trouble to save that much money.

* 14,300 miles per year, $3 a gallon gas

$208 a year isn’t bad

The question of reliability (thus longevity) is at stake with a 10% drop in fuel mileage. The vehicle needs an examination. 10% isn’t noise.

Of course it also assumes record-keeping.
