Oconomowoc (SE Wisconsin) Alt. Car Show April 25, 2009

Hey everyone!

I am putting together an Alternative Car Show for our local Earth Day Celebration on April 25 2009.

It takes place in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, which is about half-way between Milwaukee and Madison.

If anyone has an eco-friendly vehicle they would like to show off there, please let me know!

I already have lined up some hybrids, electrics, and bio-diesel vehicles.

I was thinking that it would be great to show off a "regular" car which has been EcoModded to show how people can improve the car they already have.

If you are interested, please let me know!

Ben Nelson

I'll definitely try to have the EcoRider up and running to bring it there!

If you are interested, I could probably bring a car too. My vehicles don't have too many ecomods done to them, but their mileage isn't too shabby.

This event is coming up soon, so I wanted to bump it back to the top of the list.

We will have a number of EVs, NEVs, Hybrids, and biodiesel vehicles at the event.

If you have an alternative to the typical gas guzzler, or an "eco-modded" vehicle, please let me know and bring it over!

Otherwise, just come on out and enjoy the Show!

I'm definitely looking forward to it. If I can't get the EcoRider out there, I can definitely bring the Paseo.

Thanks to everyone who showed up at the event!

Special thanks to fellow Ecomodder Doax for showing off his Paseo. (He was rewarded with lunch and ice cream, and a test drive of the Electro-Metro.)

Turn out was pretty good, especially considering that it rained most of the day.

Vehicles ranged from a home-made electric/human hybrid bicycle, pure EV trucks, hybrids of all types, bio-diesel, and we even let in the local GM dealer. (Actually the GM sales guy way very nice. He even went for a ride on my motorcycle, although I DID warn him to go easy on the throttle!!!!)

I demand videos and pictures!

The car show was a big success I'd say. It was pouring out so hard a few times you couldn't even talk to each other in the metal roofed pavilion! Still, the people came out to check out the vehicles. Ben had a pretty good array of vehicles there too.

Here are the pics I got which isn't many unfortunately.
I had just arrived at this point. We eventually had the entire pavilion filled up with cars and a few outside in the rain.

Heres the ol Paseo and Electro-Metro. Ben showed me up with a big hand drawn 130 MPGe sign on his hood vs my 50+ mpg sign.

Oh yeah, on the way home I didn't find any ducks, but I did drive right past these guys. I came back to get a pic just for you Ben.

Then, low and behold, when I get home my wife spots these guys waddling through our yard. Guess we get ducks after all. :)

LOL! I just showed Kristin the ducks.

I invited a wildlife animal shelter to the event. (The EARTH DAY main part inside. Why would I invite animals to a car show? Well, maybe a cougar...) They had an exotic duck, endangered turtle, and a snake.

We went to go see the duck right after lunch, but just missed them!

It was weather fit only for a duck, but we still had a good turn out.

Here's a photo of when we had all the cars in.

They are stacked two deep in the photo, plus more on the left and a couple GM cars outside the pavilion.

Here's what it was like inside the car show.

Inside the main building, Earth Day was FULL of people checking out all the booths, eating local,organic,in-season food, and having lots of fun!

Yea! GO GREEN!

Missed it, but I'll try to be there next time. But I'll need to find a camera that doesn't make me look shorter and fatter than Ben.

No problem, just stand on a box, farther away from the camera!!!

SVOboy 04-25-2009 09:23 PM

Looks like a fun time! Too bad about the rain.

Bart_75_Midget 04-26-2009 09:52 AM

Dang it all.
To think that I did nothing yesterday but sat on my butt in front of the tube, and a few miles from my house you had a car show. My fault for not staying more current on this site. My loss.

MetroMPG 04-28-2009 12:00 PM

Congrats on the show. Too bad about the weather, but having that pavillion was great!

MetroMPG 04-28-2009 12:23 PM

Ha! Ben: just noticed your "NOT the man in Canada" user title :P

bennelson 04-28-2009 12:50 PM

While weather wasn't that good, we really did still have a pretty good crowd.

One of the comments I heard from other Greener Oconomowoc members (last year, as well as this year) was that the Alt. Auto Show was the biggest single thing pulling crowds out to the Earth Day event.
